Term Carbine often refers to several things.
First is [ a shorten version of a standard issue rifle ]
Masin nagant was about 42" - Carbine version about 35"
M16 about 36 - M4 Carbine about 30
# not exact But you get the idea that its a reduction in length.

And don't forget older weapons are naturally longer due to specs, So a Old carbine could be longer then a non carbine new rifle now.
Its not length that counts, is that its a smaller variant.

Secondly is just the opposite.
If you make a Handgun larger in characteristic Then its considered a carbine.
Example a Luger with a 6in barrel standards everything.
Add a longer 18+ in barrel, add a stock, & not needed but often done include higher capacity mags or drums to go with it.
And you have a carbine.
A pistol on steroids.

In this image its a revolver scaled up to mimic a rifle ,Added barrel and grip, added stock Ect

Interesting, reminds me of a mix of a 500 Smith and Wesson and a .475 Wildey handgun, bulk and power with precision and style
